Transporting Nursery Plants Without Damage
Simple steps to make sure your seedlings arrive at the farm as healthy as they left the nursery.

Many seedling losses happen not in the field but on the way there. A little care during loading and transport makes a big difference.
Before loading
- Water the plants a few hours before loading so the soil ball is moist but not dripping.
- Check that polybags are intact.
Loading
- Keep plants upright and pack them closely so they do not tip over.
- Do not stack plants on top of each other.
- Lift plants by the bag, never by the stem or leaves.
On the road
- Use a covered vehicle or a shade net to protect plants from sun and wind. Wind can dry and tear leaves quickly.
- For long trips, travel in the cooler part of the day.
On arrival
- Unload into a shaded spot and water the plants.
- Plant them as soon as possible, ideally within a few days.
